THE WBC COMMEMORATIVE BELTS OF SEPTEMBER

The WBC Commemorative Belts of September

On Saturday, September 17, Saul “Canelo” Álvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin will attract the attention of the whole world when they star in their third epic match with the undisputed super middleweight championship held by the Mexican at stake.

Although both have built successful careers,  their rivalry is already considered one of the most important in contemporary boxing. This duel will further cement their legacy and position in the records of our sport.

 Apart from everything that will be at stake, the winner of this fight will be able to take home the WBC “Guerrero Jaguar Zapoteca” commemorative belt. This concept was born in 2017, and since then, every year a culture is selected to create handmade belts and present a magnificent tribute from the WBC to world boxing and Mexican identity.

 The World Boxing Council commemorative belts for May 5 and September 16 are a special trophy, which is awarded to the winner of the greatest fights held surrounding these two Mexican holidays, regardless of the nationality of the contenders.

 World sports has a constant calendar with specific dates in which they present their biggest events, leading to great expectation worldwide. In the case of boxing, something magical happens, as our sport has two dates on which we can see boxing at its highest level: May 5 and September 16. So, the third duel #CaneloGGG will be the final decider.

The “Guerrero Jaguar Zapoteca” Belt, unique in its kind, is the result of the joint work between the government of Oaxaca, the World Boxing CouncilCleto Reyes and of course the brilliant artists of Taller Jacobo and María Ángeles.
